Citrix retires XenClient

Citrix on its website announced that it started the End-of-Life process of Citrix XenClient Enterprise, the end of life date will be December 12, 2016.

XenClient consists of two technologies, the XenClient, which is a type-1 client hypervisor running on selected hardware and the XenClient Enterprise Synchronizer, which allows XenClients to download centrally managed virtual desktops and run the locally. Synchronizer provides backup and restore, security policies and more.

Citrix will stop selling XenClient Enterprise as of October 1st, 2015 stopping maintenance on December 12th, 2015. Citrix states:

Given the cost and complexity of supporting large combination of hardware platforms required for XenClient Enterprise, the decision was made to retire XenClient Enterprise was based on realignment of Citrix priorities and resources towards technologies and projects that more directly contribute to the growth of XenApp and XenDesktop, especially given the cost and complexity of supporting large combination of hardware platforms.
