VMware has released a paper titled: "vSphere High Availability Deployment Best Practices". The paper which contains 17 pages covers how to configure vSphere High Availability in order to enable rapid recovery from outages and HA for applications running in VMs based on best practices from the field.
The paper covers the following topics:
- Design principles for HA
- Host considerations
- vCenter Server availability considerations
- Networking design considerations, including setting up redundancy, adapter teaming and management networks and management of network changes within a HA cluster
- Storage design considerations covering storage heartbeats.
- Cluster configuration considerations covering host isolation, cluster partitions, VM and application health monitoring, vSphere HA and Fault Tolerance, Admission control, Affinitiy rules and Log files.
