AppZero, the company which provides application virtualization solutions, has announced that Simon Crosby, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) for the Data Center and Cloud Division at Citrix has been elected to its board of directors.
This news follows the recent hires of Ross Norrie as VP Engineering and Valerie O’Connel as VP Business Development & Marketing in January this year. In October last year AppZero hired Bill Cullen as its CTO, quite recently after Mark Striling and Nigel Stokes invested in the company.
AppZero provides a quite unique application virtualization solution, it provides application virtualization for Linux, Solaris and Windows server applications and application virtualization for Windows client applications. Especially the server application virtualization solution is quite unique at this point, both the upcoming Microsoft Server App-V as part of System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2012. VMware is rumored to work on similar functionality in ThinApp, but didn’t provide the functionality until now.
The fact that Crosby from Citrix is now member of the board of directors, shows us that Citrix is heavily interested in the AppZero technology, paving a way for a possible acquisition or at least a tight relationship in the future. The AppZero solution could be an interesting addition to the current Citrix offerings in the Datacenter/Cloud space.
