Parallels continues to release updates to its virtualization solution for Apple Mac OS at a frenetic pace.
It's evident they aim to release this new version for upcoming MacWorld in San Francisco, planned for 8th January.
The new build (3036) introduces:

Meanwhile Apple continues to deny they are working on native virtualization capabilities for new Mac OS release, codename Leopard.
- a display rendering feature called Coherence, mimicking seamless application approach introduced by Citrix in remote desktop, able to show Windows applications inside a virtual machine as part of the underlying Mac OS desktop (check a nice screencast here)
- a P2V/V2V migration tool called Transporter, able to migrate physical PCs and VMware/Microsoft virtual machines
- drag & drop between Windows guest OSes and Mac host OS
- capability to virtualize a Windows partition made with Apple BootCamp
- a new user interface with a virtual machines catalogue

I think that feature like Coherence will be a killer one.
I immagine a time in which I can install every type of applications in the right virtual environment and use them from my preferred OS UI.
What do you think?

Aca,
thank you for stopping by and commenting.
I thing features like Coherence will simplify acceptance of virtualization for desktop users.
Anyway the scenario you described is more likely to happen when application virtualization will go mainstream than with actual server virtualization.
I agree on a point: in the future all our application will be self-contained and abstracted from underlying OS and hardware. But I believe will depend on the engine, not on the UI.

Alessandro,
what I mean with my preferred UI is a way to "consume" the UI of the application within the UI of my primary/preferred OS UI in the same way the Citrix publish application feature allow the seamless use of a remote application within the OS hosting the ICA client.
